Our Story

Why we ended up building decks

We build and repair decks for homeowners around Vancleave and the Gulf Coast, working on everything from a small landing off a back door to a multi-level deck around a pool. Most of us got into this trade because we like outdoor work you can actually see finished at the end of the job, not because we wanted to work behind a desk. If it involves lumber, footings, and something you'll stand on for the next twenty years, that's our end of the business.

If you called us, chances are a board's gone soft, a railing's loose, or the whole deck is starting to lean toward one corner. Most of the time that traces back to a footing that was never poured deep enough or a ledger board that was never flashed, so water's been getting behind the house siding for years without anyone noticing. We dig the footings below grade, flash every ledger connection, and use fasteners rated for treated lumber, so the deck we hand back to you isn't hiding the same problem under new boards.

Why Choose Us

What you get when you hire us

None of this is complicated. It is mostly just doing what we said we would do.

Licensed & Insured

You're not on the hook if a worker gets hurt on your property or a post gets set wrong. Ask for certificates before any contractor steps onto your property, us included.

Built to Code

A deck that doesn't pass inspection has to come apart and get rebuilt, which costs you twice. We build it right the first time and pull permits when the job calls for one.

Written Quotes

No verbal estimate that turns into a different number on the invoice. You'll see square footage, material grade, and labor broken out so you know what you're paying for.

Show Up On Schedule

Decks get held up by rain more than almost any other trade, since you can't pour a footing in a downpour. When that happens we tell you the same day, not let you find out by not showing up.

Material Options

Composite costs more up front but you're not restaining it every two years. We'll walk you through the tradeoffs instead of just selling you whatever's on the truck.

Local to the Coast

We've seen what salt air and afternoon thunderstorms do to lumber that wasn't rated for ground contact. That's why we spec hardware and fasteners for this climate, not a catalog default.

Common Questions

Things people ask us

Questions about us specifically, not the work itself.

How long have you been building decks?
Experience in deck construction varies by contractor, but the trade itself involves carpentry skills built over years of framing, working with treated lumber, and understanding local code requirements for footings and railings. Photos of completed deck projects are a more reliable measure than years in business alone.
Do you use your own crew or subcontractors?
Some deck builders run their own carpentry crew for every stage of the job, while others subcontract specialty work like electrical for deck lighting or masonry for stone-clad footings. Asking directly who will physically be on-site building the deck versus who's managing the project clears this up fast.
Can I see photos of decks you've built?
A deck contractor should have a portfolio of completed projects, ideally including a range of materials and designs like composite decks, multi-level builds, and railing styles, available to review before a design gets locked in. Photos of the framing stage, not just the finished deck, say more about the quality of the work underneath.
Why hire a smaller deck builder instead of a big company?
A smaller deck contractor often means the person who gives the quote is the same person who oversees or does the actual carpentry, which cuts down on miscommunication about details like board direction or railing style. Larger companies sometimes hand a job off to a crew that never spoke with the homeowner directly.
Where are you based?
This deck building business is based in Vancleave, Mississippi, and serves surrounding Gulf Coast communities within roughly a 50-mile radius.
How far in advance do I need to book?
Booking lead time for deck construction depends on the season, with spring and early summer typically being the busiest stretch for new builds on the Gulf Coast. Repair work usually has shorter lead times than full new construction since it takes less material and planning.
Do you clean up the job site when you're done?
A deck contractor should clear off cut-off lumber scraps, packaging from decking material, and any nails or screws dropped in the yard before calling a job finished, since loose fasteners in grass are a real hazard for bare feet and mower tires. Site cleanup is worth confirming as part of the original quote.
What happens if something gets damaged during construction?
A licensed and insured deck contractor carries general liability coverage that handles accidental damage to siding, landscaping, or irrigation lines that happens during construction. An insurance certificate should be available before work starts rather than after an incident happens.
Will you finish a deck another contractor started?
Taking over a deck project mid-build is possible, but it starts with an inspection of the existing framing to check whether the footings, joists, and ledger attachment already in place meet code before any new decking or railing goes on top. Sometimes the finished work already in place reveals that framing needs to be redone rather than built over.
How do I know the deck work is being done correctly?
Checking that footings are poured to the required depth, the ledger board is properly flashed and bolted rather than just nailed, and railing meets the 36-inch height with baluster spacing under 4 inches are the main things a homeowner or inspector checks on a deck build. Many municipalities require a permit inspection at the framing stage before decking boards go down, which is a built-in check on the work.
